Job Title: British Sign Language Interpreter (1-to-1 Support)

Working Hours: Approx. 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Salary: Competitive daily rates (based on experience and qualifications)
The Supply Register is proud to be working in partnership with Newcastle College, who are seeking a dedicated and compassionate British Sign Language (BSL) Interpreter to provide 1-to-1 support for a deaf student starting in September.
About the Role:
This is a highly rewarding opportunity for someone passionate about accessibility and inclusion. The student will be undertaking work placements in the hospitality sector — such as cafés, restaurants, and bars — four days a week. You will accompany the student throughout their placement, providing sign language interpretation and communication support as needed.
Key Responsibilities:

Provide British Sign Language (BSL) or signed communication support to a deaf student during work placements

Interpret communication between the student and placement staff or customers

Be hands-on in hospitality environments when required (e.g., assisting with service tasks like preparing drinks or serving)

Travel to and from different placements within the Newcastle area
About You:

British Sign Language certification is ideal but not essential

We welcome applications from individuals with strong signing skills, including those with personal experience (e.g., a deaf family member)

Comfortable working in active, customer-facing hospitality settings

Able to travel independently between various placement locations – driving licence or confidence using public transport is preferred

Reliable, empathetic, and professional in supporting young adults in practical environments
