Recruitment challenges
CORE Education Trust encountered recruitment issues typical of many trusts. These challenges were at odds with their own values, and they sort to find a solution that would overcome this.
Jo Sargeant, Director of Business and Operations at CORE Education Trust commented;
“Before partnering with The Supply Register, our temporary recruitment processes were inconsistent and time‑consuming.
We relied heavily on multiple agencies, which often led to higher costs, variable candidate quality, and a lack of visibility over overall spend and usage.
We selected The Supply Register because they offered a more streamlined, transparent, and cost-effective approach to temporary staffing.”
Since 2016, we have developed a partnership-led approach that goes beyond just ‘placement of candidates’.
We pride ourselves as working as a true extension of the team, with all schools, trusts and further education establishments that use our services.
Using a mix of new technology with our bespoke recruitment portal, tsr365, and offering personalised and experienced support with our dedicated partnerships teams, we are able to create relationships that are effective, trusted and rewarding for all.
The Bank-first Managed Service
Since onboarding, CORE Education Trust has seen an improvement in candidate quality and continuity, with 81% of candidates having worked multiple days, and 25% of those working more than 20 days at the Trust.
We invest time in ensuring that candidates are the right cultural and operational fit. This is reflected in the Trust’s average candidate rating, which currently stands at 4.1 out of 5 stars.
This approach benefits trusts by providing familiar faces who return to teach—candidates who understand expectations, are familiar with how the academy is run, and can therefore deliver greater consistency, ultimately benefiting pupils.
It also allows candidates to work flexibly across academies within the trust, strengthening workforce stability, and increasing the likelihood of long-term or permanent appointments.
The Supply Register has exceeded our expectations through the consistent quality of candidates, the transparency of their processes, and the ongoing support we receive.
Positive outcomes for all
Our approach prioritises fair pay and ethical practice, with full transparency around pay and charges. By operating with reduced margins, we maximise value for candidates while delivering measurable cost efficiencies for Trusts.
Whilst we work hard to ensure value for both candidate and trust, we do not compromise on safeguarding. Our robust recruitment and selection process is backed by APSCo Compliance+ accreditation and offers both reassurance and peace of mind.
By introducing caps on margins for temporary cover, and offering free temp to perm with 12 weeks work and 4 weeks’ notice on permanent placements we created a structured approach, resulting in a saving of 19% on supply costs.
Unlike many providers, we do not use umbrella companies, ensuring supply staff receive a clear, transparent weekly payslip with no hidden fees, helping them retain more of their earnings. In addition, our model delivers greater access to consistent work, with supply staff working an average of 4.5 days per week—1.5 days above the sector average. As a result, candidates working full-time across our partner trusts’ staff banks can achieve significantly higher annual earnings compared with typical sector arrangements.
