Driving recruitment excellence at Leigh Academies Trust
How a curated Preferred Supplier List delivered quality, consistency and cost savings across the Trust's schools.
Working with The Supply Register as a managed service, Leigh Academies Trust successfully transformed its temporary recruitment by building a high-performing, ethical supply agency network.
Leigh Academies Trust (LAT) is one of the country’s largest and most-established trusts, operating 32 primary, secondary and SEN academies across Kent, Medway and South East London. Highly inclusive and geographically diverse, LAT requires a recruitment model that balances flexibility, safeguarding and value for money.

Bringing consistency to a supply chain
LAT set out to establish standardised temporary recruitment terms across its academies to ensure every appointment upheld the highest standards of student welfare and safeguarding, while delivering measurable cost and time savings.
The challenge was to create a fair and balanced approach that benefited both temporary staff and academies, while building a high-performing agency supply chain committed to standardised rates and fairer terms than industry standards.
Holly Neve, Talent Manager at Leigh Academies Trust, acknowledged:
“As a multi-academy trust, there are a lot of moving parts and agency costs are only increasing. We chose to work with The Supply Register as a Managed Service to streamline processes across all academies.
We now have a single point of contact rather than multiple agencies, and we’re safe in the knowledge that all terms are agreed and safeguarding is maintained across the Trust.”
The Partnership Management Executives at the Supply Register engage with us on a human level and want the best for our academies.

Significant cost savings
Reduce staffing costs by up to 20% through access to local talent banks, fair and consistent pay structures, no finder’s fees, and standardised agency rates.
“The Supply Register has made us feel far more reassured about the temporary staff entering our academies, particularly around safeguarding and safer recruitment."
A curated preferred supplier list
A key highlight of the partnership is Leigh Academies Trust’s Preferred Supplier List, which comprises 70 vetted supply agencies.
All agencies operate under the same agreed terms and conditions, ensuring a consistent and fair approach. Margins are set at £30 per day, which is significantly lower than the sector average of £45–£85.
There is also a clear commitment to the CPC Framework, including free temp-to-perm conversions after 12 weeks or reduced permanent fees. This approach benefits agencies by providing clear expectations and fair terms, while LAT gains improved quality, transparency, and control.
The outcome – quality, consistency and savings
Today, Leigh Academies Trust operates a high-performing and ethical supply chain that delivers measurable value for schools, agencies and staff alike. By standardising processes and terms across the trust, LAT has achieved both financial efficiencies and greater confidence in the quality of temporary appointments.
Between September 2024 and July 2025, the partnership delivered savings of over £178,000, representing an 18.8% reduction against historic temporary recruitment spend, with all agreed KPIs successfully met.
Alongside these savings, LAT now benefits from a strengthened and more consistent agency network. Supply agencies operate under a single rate card and common framework, creating fairer, more transparent partnerships while ensuring a consistent standard of quality across all academies.
