Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) – Behaviour Support

Beckfoot Oakbank in Keighley, part of the Beckfoot Trust, is seeking an experienced HLTA or Behaviour Support Practitioner to work within their dedicated Behaviour Intervention Unit. This is a rewarding opportunity to support pupils in Years 9–11 who experience challenges in mainstream settings but are still working towards their GCSEs.
You will work with small groups of 4–6 pupils, delivering structured interventions focused on behaviour regulation, engagement, and emotional support. While you will have teacher support for most of the day, there will be short periods (up to 10 minutes at a time) where you will lead the group independently.
This role is ideal for someone confident, calm, and experienced in supporting pupils with additional behavioural and emotional needs.
About the Pupils
You will be supporting students with:

ADHD
-
Autism
-
Anxiety around mainstream classroom environments

Behavioural and emotional regulation needs

GCSE‑level learning pathways (Years 9–11)
Key Responsibilities
-
Deliver behaviour‑focused interventions to small groups
-
Support pupils with emotional regulation and engagement
-
Build positive, trusting relationships with learners
-
Maintain a calm, structured and safe learning environment
-
Work collaboratively with teaching staff and pastoral teams
-
Lead short sessions independently when required
-
Promote positive behaviour, resilience and confidence
We’re Looking For:

HLTA qualification or strong equivalent experience
-
Background in behaviour support, SEMH, SEND or inclusion
-
Confidence managing small groups with behavioural needs
-
Strong communication and de‑escalation skills
-
A patient, consistent and supportive approach
-
Ability to work independently when needed
