Governance Officer – Sunderland College
The Supply Register, working in partnership with Education Partnership North East (EPNE), is recruiting for a Governance Officer to join the team at Sunderland College.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Business Administrator or Governance professional to work within a professional Further Education environment, supporting the College’s Corporate Governance and Policy function.
Location
Sunderland College – Bede Campus
Some travel to other College campuses will be required for meetings.
Contract – Temporary: 14 September – 18 December 2026
⏰ Hours – 27.75 hours per week
There is flexibility around the working pattern, with Monday to Thursday preferred. The exact working pattern can be agreed with the hiring manager.
Pay £16.58 per hour basic + holiday pay
About the Role
As Governance Officer, you will provide high-quality administrative support to the Head of Governance and Policy, Board of Corporation and its Committees.
This is a varied role involving meeting coordination, minute taking, record keeping and general governance administration. You will work with senior stakeholders and handle confidential and sensitive information, so professionalism, discretion and attention to detail are essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Organising Board and Committee meetings, including invitations and meeting papers
- Attending meetings and taking accurate, high-quality minutes
- Producing and distributing minutes and action lists
- Maintaining Governor records, training logs and Registers of Interests
- Managing Governor expenses and travel arrangements
- Raising purchase orders and processing invoices
- Supporting the Head of Governance and Policy with general administration
- Working with senior stakeholders and Governors
- Handling confidential information with discretion
- Using Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and Teams to manage documents and information
About You
We are looking for someone who is:
- Professional, organised and highly reliable
- An experienced Business Administrator or Governance professional
- Confident working with senior stakeholders
- An excellent communicator with strong written English
- Experienced in or confident with minute taking
- Highly organised with excellent attention to detail
- Comfortable handling confidential and sensitive information
- Confident using Microsoft Office and Teams
- Able to understand and accurately record complex information
Previous governance, Board/Committee or education experience would be advantageous, although strong relevant business administration experience will also be considered.
A degree is desirable but relevant experience can be considered in place of a degree. A level 2 or equivalent qualification in Enlgish and maths is essential.
Evening Meetings – Important
The role includes some evening meetings, both online via Teams and in person at College campuses. Candidates must be available to attend these when required.
Evening meetings typically finish at around 7:30pm online or 8:30pm in person. Any additional hours worked will be given back as time off, agreed with the hiring manager.
