English Teacher (Maternity Cover)

Location: South East London
Contract: Part-time (3 days per week), 1-Year Maternity Cover
Start Date: September 2026
Salary: Paid to scale

We are delighted to be in partnership with the Leathersellers’ Federation of Schools in the recruitment of an enthusiastic and committed English Teacher to join Prendergast School from September 2026. This part-time maternity cover position offers an excellent opportunity to become part of a thriving English department within a well-respected and supportive secondary school.

The successful candidate will be passionate about English, dedicated to achieving excellent outcomes for students, and committed to delivering engaging and inspiring lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver high-quality English lessons that challenge and engage learners.
  • Assess, monitor and support student progress to ensure strong academic achievement.
  • Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes a love of learning.
  • Contribute to the wider life of the department and school community.

Key Skills

  • Strong classroom management and the ability to build positive relationships with students.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • A creative and engaging approach to teaching English.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate students of varying abilities.

Essential Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
  • Experience teaching English within the UK secondary curriculum.
  • Strong subject knowledge and a commitment to high standards of teaching and learning.
  • Dedication to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
