Benedict’s Law – new allergy safety procedures for schools

From September 2026, Benedict’s Law will require all state schools in England to follow clear allergy safety procedures and be prepared for emergencies.

Key requirements for schools include;

  • Developing and publishing a dedicated allergy safety policy on their website
  • Mandatory Allergy & Anaphylaxis Training for all staff
  • Emergency medication to be kept in stock and in date for emergency use on a child or adult
  • Create individual care plans for affected pupils.

Mandatory training and compliance requirements for all our candidates are updated from September to ensure we are meeting the requirements of Benedict’s Law.

All candidates must complete Allergy & Anaphylaxis Training before they can be placed in a school. This requirement applies to all new placements from September onwards, including those placed through our preferred agency partners, and forms part of our commitment to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of children in education.

The Supply Register will ensure that:

  • All candidates are made aware of this requirement during the registration and compliance process.
  • Candidates complete the required Allergy & Anaphylaxis Training before they are cleared for work.
  • No candidate is placed in a school unless this training has been successfully completed and recorded in their compliance file.

We work with the National College to provide all training to ensure candidates are ready to work. Allergy & Anaphylaxis Training now forms part of the mandatory training modules alongside Safeguarding, Prevent & FGM Training.

We follow this process to ensure we remain compliant with the new legislation and continue to provide schools with fully compliant staff.
