We are seeking a dedicated, compassionate, and innovative SEN Teacher to join our team and support pupils with diverse learning needs. The successful candidate will create an inclusive, engaging, and safe learning environment that promotes high expectations, independence, and positive outcomes for all learners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, deliver, and assess high-quality, differentiated lessons that meet the individual needs of pupils with SEN.

  • Develop and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs), behaviour plans, and personalised support strategies.

  • Use a range of teaching approaches, interventions, and resources to support pupils with varying needs (e.g., ASD, ADHD, SEMH, MLD, SLD, PMLD).

  • Work closely with the SENCO, teaching assistants, therapists, and other professionals to ensure effective multi-disciplinary support.

  • Foster a positive, inclusive classroom environment that encourages emotional well-being, resilience, and engagement.

  • Monitor progress and maintain accurate records, reporting regularly to parents, carers, and external agencies.

  • Adapt teaching methods to incorporate assistive technologies, sensory supports, and communication systems where required (e.g., PECS, Makaton, AAC).

  • Safeguard and promote the welfare of all pupils in line with school policies.

  • Participate in staff training, professional development, and whole-school initiatives.

  • Contribute to behaviour management strategies and support pupils with emotional or behavioural challenges.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.

  • Experience working with children or young people with special educational needs.

  • Strong understanding of SEN frameworks, including the SEND Code of Practice.

  • Ability to differentiate teaching to meet a wide range of needs and abilities.

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and organisational skills.

  • Patience, empathy, and a positive, solution-focused attitude.

Desirable

  • Additional qualifications or training in SEN (e.g., NASENCO, Autism Education, SEMH strategies).

  • Experience working in specialist or alternative provision settings.

  • Knowledge of therapeutic or specialist approaches (e.g., TEACCH, Thrive, Trauma-informed practice).
