Contract: Full-time / Temp to Permanent
Salary: pro-rata £24,840 – £29,690 per annum)
Location: Birmingham City Centre
Start Date: ASAP


 

The Role

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Deputy Head of Year to join our pastoral team. Working closely with the Head of Year, you will play a key role in supporting the well-being, attendance, behaviour, and academic progress of students across a year group.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone passionate about young people’s development and eager to make a real difference to their school experience.


Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Head of Year in promoting high standards of attendance, punctuality, and behaviour.

  • Provide day-to-day pastoral care and guidance to students, acting as a point of contact for parents and carers.

  • Assist in monitoring academic progress and implementing strategies to raise achievement.

  • Contribute to safeguarding and child protection processes in line with school policy.

  • Support the organisation of year group events such as assemblies, parents’ evenings, and enrichment activities.

  • Work collaboratively with teaching and support staff to ensure consistent pastoral support across the school.


About You

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Passionate about supporting young people and improving outcomes for all.

  • Approachable, empathetic, and able to build strong relationships with students and families.

  • Well-organised, resilient, and able to work effectively under pressure.

  • Confident in promoting positive behaviour and handling sensitive situations with care.

  • Committed to upholding the school’s values and contributing to a positive school culture.

Experience in a pastoral or educational support role is desirable, but not essential — we welcome applications from individuals with transferable skills from youth work, social care, or similar sectors.

Experience in a pastoral or educational support role is desirable

English and Mathematics GCSE (or equivalent) at grade C or above, DSL training or willing to undertake

£125 — £180 per Day
