Glendinning School is seeking an enthusiastic, caring, and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join our committed team. This is an exciting opportunity to support children and young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN), helping them to achieve their full potential in a nurturing, inclusive, and inspiring learning environment.
The successful candidate will be passionate about making a positive difference to the lives of pupils with a range of additional needs. They will work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, families, and other professionals to provide high-quality support that enables every pupil to thrive both academically and personally.
Key Responsibilities
- Support pupils with a range of special educational needs, including autism, learning disabilities, communication difficulties, sensory needs, and social, emotional, and mental health needs.
- Assist teachers in planning and delivering engaging, differentiated learning activities.
- Provide one-to-one and small group support to help pupils access the curriculum and achieve their individual learning goals.
- Foster pupils’ independence, confidence, communication skills, and emotional wellbeing.
- Promote positive behaviour using consistent, supportive, and restorative approaches.
- Help create a safe, stimulating, and inclusive classroom environment.
- Support pupils with personal care and medical needs where required, following appropriate training and school procedures.
- Contribute to the implementation of Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and individual support strategies.
- Observe, monitor, and record pupil progress, providing feedback to teaching staff.
- Work closely with parents, carers, therapists, and external agencies to support pupils’ development.
- Participate fully in school life, including educational visits, enrichment activities, and training opportunities.
Person Specification
We are looking for someone who:
- Is enthusiastic, positive, and committed to supporting children with SEN.
- Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Is patient, resilient, and adaptable.
- Can build positive and trusting relationships with pupils.
- Works effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Has a calm and proactive approach to supporting behaviour.
- Is organised, reliable, and able to use initiative.
- Shares the school’s commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
Essential
- GCSE English and Mathematics (Grade C/4 or above), or equivalent.
- A genuine passion for supporting children and young people with additional needs.
- Ability to work collaboratively and maintain confidentiality.
- Commitment to safeguarding, equality, and inclusion.
Desirable
- Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN.
- Knowledge of autism, ADHD, communication needs, or positive behaviour support.
- Relevant Teaching Assistant qualification (Level 2 or Level 3) or willingness to work towards one.
- Experience supporting pupils with EHCPs.
