The Supply Register is currently recruiting a Carpentry and Joinery Lecturer to support New College Durham on a full-time temporary basis starting in September. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Carpentry and Joinery Lecturer to join a supportive Further Education environment and make a positive impact on learners pursuing careers within the construction industry.
The Role
As a Carpentry and Joinery Lecturer, you will deliver engaging and practical lessons, supporting learners to develop the technical skills, knowledge, and industry standards required for successful careers within the construction sector.
Key responsibilities include:
- Delivering Carpentry and Joinery lessons across vocational qualifications (City & Guilds, NVQ, Diploma)
- Teaching both practical workshop sessions and classroom-based theory
- Demonstrating industry-standard carpentry and joinery techniques and best practices
- Preparing learners for assessments, practical observations, and coursework
- Monitoring learner progress and providing constructive feedback
- Maintaining a safe and compliant workshop environment, promoting health and safety best practice
- Creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment that enables learners to succeed
What We’re Looking For
Essential:
- Experience teaching Carpentry and Joinery within a Further Education or training environment
- Relevant Carpentry and Joinery qualification at Level 3 or above
- Recognised teaching qualification (PGCE, CertEd, DET, or equivalent)
- Strong classroom management and communication skills
- Ability to engage, motivate, and support post-16 learners
- Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain)
Desirable:
- Assessor qualification (TAQA, A1, or equivalent)
- Experience delivering City & Guilds, NVQ, or Diploma qualifications
- Knowledge of current industry standards and health & safety requirements
