School Caretaker – Plymouth
Location: Plymouth
Hours: Full-Time, Monday to Friday
Contract: Temporary with the potential for long-term and permanent opportunities

The Supply Register is recruiting School Caretakers to work across our partner schools and Multi-Academy Trusts throughout Plymouth.
This is an excellent opportunity for a reliable, proactive and hands-on individual with maintenance or caretaking experience who takes pride in maintaining safe, secure and well-presented school environments.
The Role
As a School Caretaker, you will be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance, security and upkeep of the school site, ensuring a safe environment for pupils, staff and visitors.
Your responsibilities will include:

Opening and locking the school site each day.

Carrying out general maintenance and minor repairs.

Undertaking planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and responding to reactive maintenance issues.

Monitoring the condition of the school buildings and grounds.

Carrying out regular health and safety checks, including fire safety and site inspections.

Assisting with contractor access and monitoring works on site.

Setting up rooms and equipment for school events and activities.
-
Maintaining high standards of cleanliness and presentation across the school site.

Ensuring compliance with Health & Safety, COSHH and safeguarding procedures.
The Ideal Candidate
-
Previous experience as a Caretaker, Site Supervisor, Facilities Assistant or within a maintenance role is desirable.

Practical DIY and maintenance skills.

Good understanding of Health & Safety procedures.
-
Reliable, trustworthy and able to work independently.
-
Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
-
A positive attitude and willingness to support the wider school community.
Essential Compliance Requirements
As this role is within a school, successful applicants must be able to:
-
Provide a full employment history covering the last 24 months.
-
Provide a minimum of two employment references covering the last 24 months (three if you have not previously worked with children).

Complete an Employment History Form covering every month from leaving full-time education.

Provide a character reference to cover any gaps in employment. Character referees must be from a recognised professional occupation, have a work email address, have known you for at least three years and must not be a relative.

Hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to apply for one.
-
Provide proof of right to work in the UK.

Provide two proofs of address, proof of National Insurance and any relevant name change documentation.
-
Provide an overseas police check if you have lived outside the UK for more than six months.

Complete our free mandatory safeguarding and compliance training.
