The Supply Register is currently working in partnership with Ark John Keats Academy in Enfield to find a passionate and knowledgeable Head of Science to their team and lead the department. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced or aspiring Head of Department to join a large and successful team of science teachers.
Students at Ark John Keats study Science at KS3, KS4 and KS5. They offer triple science at GCSE for those that wish to study in more depth; all other students take the combined GCSE. They offer A-Level courses in all three sciences, and these are some of the more popular A-Level subjects. The academy also offers a BTEC Level 3 Applied Science course in the Sixth Form which prepares students for future studies and careers in science. This is part of the Ark Professional Pathways programme which is an exclusive Sixth Form programme within the Ark network. All students are offered a free Chromebook when they join the school, which not only supports the computing curriculum but our wider digital strategy.
We are looking for someone who aligns with the academy’s approach to curriculum and teaching. The successful candidate will work closely with other teachers and leaders in the AJK Science team, as well as across the Ark network to secure excellent outcomes for all pupils.
Responsibilities
- Implementation of the Science curriculum
- Achievement of consistently outstanding teaching and learning in science
- Achievement of outstanding academic attainment and progress in science
- Embedding of the Ark John Keats ethos and culture in the department
- Delivery of the Instructional Leadership model within the department
- Leadership and management of all other aspects of the Science Department
- Write a subject development plan and self-evaluation.
- Participate in recruitment and selection activities.
- Assist in the professional development of teachers.
- Develop strong partnerships and ensure regular and productive communication with parents.
- Manage the department budget to ensure value for money and impact on teaching and learning and attainment.
- Maintain regular and productive communication with pupils, parents, and colleagues
Requirements
- Must hold QTS or equivalent teaching qualifications for the UK
- Evidence of being, or having the potential to be, an outstanding teacher and leader of the subject
- Up to date knowledge in the curriculum area
- An understanding of what an outstanding education looks like in the classroom.
- An understanding of the strategies needed to establish consistently high expectations.
- Must have the Right to work in the UK
- Must hold an Enhanced DBS registered on the update service or be willing to process one
- Must be able to provide a minimum of 2 years’ worth of professional references
